Nissan Trims European Production on Market Slowdown

Nissan said on Monday that it will cut back further on its European vehicle assembly in order to reduce existing inventory and to prevent over supply of models that aren't selling. The Japanese firm's plants in both Sunderland (UK) and Barcelona (Spain) will be affected by this short-term plan. At Sunderland, the company will stop producing the Micra and the Note completely for two weeks at the end of October and will operate three weeks with short-time working after that. The Qashqai crossover's production at Sunderland will not be affected by these measures. -Continued

The firm's Spanish plant in Barcelona will see the two production lines for the Pathfinder, Navara 4x4s and Primastar van, which is also sold as the Renault Trafic and GM Vivaro, coming to a complete halt for a week and eight weeks of short-time working between late October and December.

The company said that employees at both locations will be involved in a number of specific job and training related activities during the non-production days.
