Softer 450HP Maserati GranTurismo MC Launches in the U.S.

Remember the Maserati GranTurismo MC Stradale that was introduced last year at the Paris Auto Show? The Italian sportscar maker has brought a ‘softer’ version of the MC to the States that drops the “Stradale” word from its name. That is because the GranTurismo MC has a full automatic gearbox instead of the original Race Shift transmission and two extra seats in the back instead of a roll cage. Paris Show: Maserati's 300+ km/h GranTurismo MC Stradale

As we told you in our previous post, the GranTurismo MC Stradale is a racier, sportier version of Maser's big coupe (think the GT3, but from Maserati). According to the Italian sports / luxury carmaker, the MC Stradale didn't budge an inch when it came to comprises in return for performance; it handles better without losing ride quality (that has yet to be tested), it's more powerful without sacrificing fuel economy, and it plants itself harder without adding any drag.

After the standard 404HP GranTurismo, the sportier 'S' with 440HP in both manual and automatic flavors and more recently the limited edition 'S MC Sport Line', Maserati is once again expanding its coupe's lineup with the introduction of a new model.

Set to make its world premiere at this month's Paris motorshow, the more hardcore GranTurismo MC Stradale is claimed to be "the fastest, lightest and most powerful car in the Maserati range" when it goes on sale in the first quarter of 2011.

For the man who has everything except taste, there is Mansory. The Bavarian automobile tuner has now turned their attention to the Maserati GranTurismo coupe and its more powerful 'S' brethren.

The Mansory GT and GTS features a new front spoiler, radiator grille, bonnet, deeper door sills, rear spoiler, exhaust inlay, rear apron and rear diffuser. All of these add-ons are carbon fibre and made in-house by Mansory.

So how do you further improve the Maserati GranTurismo coupe? Well, for one you start off with the sportiest model of the range, the 440HP GranTurismo S. Then you begin upgrading it with a bunch of mechanical and styling parts from the company's newly launched "MC Sport Line" customization catalogue.

Maserati did not say which items from the lineup made their way onto the limited edition GranTurismo S MC Sport Line, but we do know that only 12 examples finished in a Matt White "ice" color will be built and sold exclusively to customers in the Middle East.

And if you're wondering why twelve cars, Maserati said it's because that's the number of world titles won by the firm's MC12 racer in the FIA GT International Championship since 2005, but also because twelve are the Middle East cities where Maserati is present with a dedicated showroom.

Each example of the GraTurismo S MC Sport Line will feature an internal plaque with the name of the city to which it is committed.

Later on, Maserati will produced a second run of 11 units of the car, this time finished in a Matt Bianco Fuji with pearlescent nuances, all of which will be destined for its home market in Italy.

Maserati GranTurismo MC Concept: Wallpapers, Official Brochure and Video

Following up on our previous article on the Maserati GranTurismo MC, we’ve got our hands on a full set of high-resolution images, the official brochure and to top it off, a short video of the concept undergoing testing at the Monza circuit in Italy. The MC Concept is essentially a track-ready version of the GranTurismo S featuring an upgraded 450HP V8 engine, race-spec suspension and brakes, slick tires with 18-inch lightweight alloys and an aerodynamic package that includes a new front splitter, a boot spoiler and rear diffuser. -Continued

Inside the GranTurismo S has been stripped to bare metal gaining a FIA-approved rollcage, bucket seats and a racing steering wheel. The Italian firm hasn’t announced any plans to produce the concept but we have a hunch that the GranTurismo MC will be available for track-lovers in the very near future.

Maserati GranTurismo MC Corse

A series of photos depicting the GranTurismo MC Corse, a competition model destined for use on the tarmac, appeared on the web today. There’s no official information but according to our fellow Autobloggers, the stripped out MC Corse is equipped with a revised version of the GranTurismo S’ 430 HP V8 engine featuring a sport exhaust system with competition-spec catalytic converters and a new intake system that help boost output to 450 HP. Other modifications include an aero kit, 18-inch lightweight alloys, upgraded suspension and brake components and a FIA-approved rollcage. Baby Maserati Sports Coupe Scooped?

That Maserati is planning to build a new sport coupe that will fit right under the GranTurismo, is something that we’ve been hearing a lot lately. Now, thanks to a watchful reader at our Italian buddies at Autoblog.it, we could be seeing the first image of the prototype version. Even though the phone camera picture is a tad too small for any definite conclusions, the car viewed here looks a lot like a modified version of the GranTurismo. And for apparent economic reasons, the baby Maserati will be based on a modified version of the GranTurismo platform using a detuned version of its 4.2L V8 engine.

Maserati GranTurismo Convertible Coming In March 2009

An unnamed Maserati official has revealed to Automotive News that the Italian carmaker will launch a convertible version of its four-seat GranTurismo coupe next year. "The convertible will go on sale in March 2009, but we have not decided yet at which show we will unveil it," said the company source. Like most of its competitors –e.g. BMW 6-Series, Jaguar XK and Porsche 911, the GranTurismo Convertible will most probably feature a canvas soft-top. Power will come from the same 405 HP 4.2-liter V8 as the Coupe version.

Maserati Recalling MY 2008 GranTurismo

Well that was fast; Maserati announced its first recall on the MY 2008 GranTurismo. In all, 56 vehicles equipped with the advanced passenger seat air bag weight sensor system will be recalled by the Italian carmaker due to a malfunction in the supplemental restraint system (SRS) electronic control unit (ECU) software when the battery is not fully charged. In the event of a crash, the passenger side air bag and passenger seat belt pre-tensioner may not deploy increasing the risk of injuries. Maserati dealers will replace the SRS ECU units as necessary. The recall is expected to begin this month (January 2008).

Maserati GranTurismo: Salvatore Ferragamo Luggage Set

Italian sports car firm Maserati has entered into partnership with Salvatore Ferragamo to create a luxury luggage set inspired from the sexy GranTurismo. To celebrate the arrival in the UK of the first Maserati GranTurismos and this partnership, Ferragamo’s London flagship store at 24 Old Bond Street is currently displaying the complete luggage set in their window until Monday 24th December 2007. -Continued after the jump

The Maserati luggage set is available in two leather finishes: ‘Firenze’, hand-boarded calfskin which has a clean, smooth appearance, and is available in dark brown or Maserati blue; alternatively ‘Modena’ a sportier finish in a natural, scratch-resistant calfskin leather in black or aubergine with refined contrasting stitching. The five piece set comprises a suitcase, a weekend bag, a beauty case, a garment holder and a dual function shoe case with a removable compartment divider. As expected, these five items all fit perfectly into the GranTurismo’s boot.

The ‘Modena’ finished set retails at £3,870, and the ‘Firenze’ finished set retails at £4,180. Alternatively the items are available to purchase individually directly from Ferragamo’s London Store priced: suitcase £1,555, weekend bag £889, beauty case £489, garment holder £909, and shoe case £985.
